Q: Is it true that with a 2nd pregnancy that labour time is possibly shorter?

Okay so here is another question :) since I have been getting closer to the end I've been doing lots of reading, and have read things about labour and delivery being a shorter process then with your first pregnancy? Is this always true? I would love to hear from other mothers who already have previous children as to what your labour time was the next time around...shorter or longer?? My first was 8 hours so a shorter labour and delivery this time around would be great! :)

Generally speaking yes. For me it wasn't true though. My 2nd was my longest labor (24 hours!!!) My first was 7 hours and my 3rd was 2 hours. Apparently my 2nd kiddo wanted to take his sweet time though...lol

Studies have shown that second labors are statistically shorter by a short amount (I forget the exact amount, I want to say appr 2 hours). Of course that is just statistics, everyone will be a little different. When you are going through it, it will all seem like forever anyways LOL.

I haven't personally experience two labors, yet...my first was 10 hours. I have several friends though, who have definitely had faster labors. One of them very nearly didn't make it to the hospital, and another went so fast she delivered twins without an epidural because there wasn't time for one. Only one of my friends has had longer labors with subsequent babies.

I'm also hoping for a shorter labor this time. :)
