Q: Cervical shortening possible steroid shots

I had my 26 week prenatal visit today. My ob went over my anatomy scan which I have to repeat next Friday. I brought up that the high risk doc brought up my cervix had shortened and they want to monitor it. The ob said that if they thought the baby was in danger that they would have done a cerlage and that right now they are just monitoring it and I will possibly need to go on steroids to strengthen babies lungs and help cervix if I continue to shorten. Has anyone had experience with this?

This happened to me with my third baby. Only they didn't do cerlage, or anything of the nature. I got my first shot at 26 weeks and the second at 28. I went into preterm so many times starting at 23 weeks. They started monitoring cervical length at 26 weeks also. I had a shortening, but I also had low amniotic fluids. My advice, if you can, pretty much limit what you do. Kind of like an unofficial, no restrictions (other than what you decided), bed rest or just resting. Good luck.

Do you know how short it is? Some shortening is normal, but it's good they are monitoring it. I have incompetent cervix so I have to get the stitch in order to be able to carry a baby to viability.
