Q: 17 weeks with severe lower back and hip pain!

I woke up this morning with bad lower back pain in my right side that shoots down into my hip. It went away this afternoon and now it's back with avengence and is hurting really bad, especially right above my right buttcheek. It also goes around my hip and I have some right side abdominal pain that comes & goes that is accompanying it. I tried to do some stretches and some light yoga but nothing is helping! anyone have any advice or have anything similar? it has me a little freaked out.

It sounds like sciatic nerve pain, which is pretty common in pregnancy. I have found that a good, sturdy maternity belt helps a lot, as well as sleeping with a body pillow.

You should probably try doing some cat/cow stretches - you get on all fours and arch your back up like a cat with your neck down, and then arch your back down like a cow with your head up. Try it a few times while breathing deeply. It will help stretch your back out and it may also let your uterus "fall" forward a bit so it's not putting so much pressure on the nerves in your back.

I appreciate the answers. I have a feeling it might be sciatic because it does go down my leg as well. I do have a body pillow, but I think that all of the new weight on my hips with sleeping on my side bothers them. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone on this :)

I am 16 weeks and have been having that pain off and on for a few weeks. I am pretty sure its sciatica/ nerve pain. Your hips are growing and spreading and its not gonna be comfortable. I have also had the hip pain with round ligament pain. Its not super comfy.. and I am sure its just going to be more uncomfortable.

Hmmm...I wake up with hip pain because I sleep on my side (which I hate). Could it be your Psyatic nerve? Does it shoot down your leg at all? Do you have a pregnancy pillow? Good lock hon.
