Q: Common vs Uncommon

My hubby and I are having a terrible time naming our little girl. We are what I consider simple country folks- we both hunt, fish, own diesel trucks and use them... lol, so the really out there modern names are not us. However, my hubby wants what I consider to be the most generic common names ever, for example: Brandy, Nikki, Sam, Kate. I like the traditional, yet not overused names: Grace, Evelyn, Lily, Reese, Faith, Emma,Gabriella and I even like some that are not so traditional: Lynley, and Alianna. We do not agree on ANYTHING and I am a little afraid that this little girl will be born without a name! We are both very stubborn - HELP US PLEASE!!!

My husband and I with our first child picked a name that could be used for a boy or girl. My husband picked the first name and I got to use the name I liked for the middle name. My sons name is Payton Landon. It worked out awesome. We both got what we wanted. :)

Do tears work on him?? :-D j/k

Do any of the names he likes start with the same letter as one you like? If you can find one that you like that starts with the same letter as one of the 4 he likes, just use his as the middle name! So if he likes one that starts with "L", go through your list and find all the "L" names you love and pick the first name and give him the middle name. Definitely a compromise but worth a shot:-)

We have thought about doing the "I pick one name and he picks one name, then putting them together as a first and middle name" thing, however, mother's initials are LL and mine are NN and one thing I will not budge on is having my little girl continue the tradition. Her first and middle name must start with the same letter! My hubby hasn't pushed much on this, he just doesn't like ANY name I feel like. We have a baby name book - he like a total of 4 names in the ENTIRE book. That's how picky he is. I am giving him like 100 names to pick from that I like, and he doesn't like any of them. How do you get a hubby to compromise?

I think traditional names are awesome as well as the modern ones. My first born son is Jordan Levi and my babygirl will be named, Jorjia-Lee..I wanted to spell the name differently so she and her brother wud have the same initials, I do however understand that she will have to deal with ppl mispelling her name for the rest of her life...i

We had the same problem, we couldn't agree on a name for our girl. So when she arrived early we still didn't have a name. She was nameless for the first day and a half - but then all of sudden, out of the blue hubby said a name and instantly knew it was right! Sometimes you need to meet your little one before you know their name :)

Also consider all details about a name (ways it could be mispronounced, any way that kids could make fun of the name, misspellings, etc.). In some cases, that could help you decide too. Consider potential initials as well. It may take some time, but I'm sure your baby girl will have a name before she's born:-) Good luck!!

We have problems deciding what's for dinner most nights, so naming a person was a big task for us!! LOL

We thought we'd never agree either, but miracles do happen and we did finally decide this week. We picked Emma (in the end it came down to Emma and Gwen) but compromise came into place. Gwen is in "reserve" in case the next child is a girl.

In your case though, pick two names and make one her middle name. My baby girl's middle name will be after my mom who passed away (we couldn't use "Gwen" for a middle name anyway since that would have made her initals "EGG" lol). I'd read somewhere to try calling the baby a different name a day and see what sounds good. We actually knocked about 5 names off "the list" by doing that. Another night we sat down with a baby book and wrote down every single name either of us liked. Then we discussed and knocked a few off that way too.
