i will have to say that i go with the epidural!
all three of my deliveries have had to be induced and with my last one i was unable to get an epidural before 5cm... it was brutal! i was crying and in pain. after my epidural i ended up delivering 6 hours later.... i was able to rest and save my strength for the pushing...took me two or three pushes and he was in my arms...I am pro epidural. i am able to save all my energy for pushing! the longest i have ever had to push was 10 minutes! i am hoping for the same with this pregnancy

Hi just wanted to say, I watched "Orgasmic birth" with my husband, and seems similar to what you are describing, very educational on the way the woman's body is made to deal with childbirth, and the pros and cons of medical interventions in childbirth, highly recommend watching it. and yes, it makes me want to try and have a natural childbirth.I was induced both times with my children because dd I had preeclampsia and with ds, my health was really bad so both times they needed to come out. I had gas and air with both and that was all i needed. The pain was bare able as long as you don't panic and stress, you need to focus. I would never have any drugs and certainly not an epidural. I had a 4-hour labor 1st time and 2-hour labor 2nd time, I wish they were longer because I loved labor. Just remember every body has different pain thresholds and for me, i wouldn't use drugs. My 1st child birth experience was horrid, but I learned from my mistakes. There were so many issues with my

The crazy thing is that i didn't even really question getting epidurals with the other 2...kinda just seemed like what happened!
I will speak with my midwife about this at our first appt on Sept 12.

I very much enjoyed it and my DH was much more interested in it then he expected to be. Its a documentary. We watched it on netflix, so they have it. It is very pro-midwifery, fyi. Good luck!

Excactly - hospitals and dr.s offer it as routine - they don't seem to really discuss it before hand with you. It's crazy all the optional things that hospitals do as standard procedure that we really DO have a choice in, just dr.s don't ask - ie. the vitamin K injection they give babies, the injection they give mom as baby comes out to help with blood coagulation, the stuff they squirt in baby's eyes to prevent possible spread of gonnorhea (my midwife tested me for that and since i'm clear I opted out of it - I don't want my baby to look at me for the first time and be blurry) the heel prick tests they do on baby etc. etc. Some of them are great and I plan to do them, but I found it shocking that everything that will happen to baby after it's born is not as a general rule discussed with mom or options given. My husband said none of what my midwife discussed with us was ever discussed with him and his ex - it was all just done as standard routine. I like having some say & knowl
