Q: average length of first pregnancy?

Does anybody know the 'average' length of a first pregnancy? my midwife has told me that most first time mums go over due but then again most younger mums deliver early, I know he has to come out some-time soon but I haven't even had my 'show' yet :( there have been no labour symptoms at all, and I really don't want to be induced, advice anyone, I'm getting so impatient!

Was 20 with my first and went 40 wks 3 days. I have had alot of complications during this pregnancy so my dr is telling me he may not let me go over 37 wks. I find out is final decision in two days.

I was 21 when I had my first son, and he was supposedly 41 weeks + a couple days when I was induced. However we were never quite sure about his dates and I think he may actually have been just a touch early. (They dated him later with his femur length and he has very long legs.) There's no way to really know though! Just keep walking and crossing those fingers!

With my first at 18, I went 41weeks. In Ontario Canada they only let you go a week over before your induced. Good luck to you :)

My first I was 21 and 9 days late. My second I was 22 and 10 days late and was induced. I'm hoping to go alittle early with this one, but not counting on it. Good luck.

Eryn was born at 40 weeks+ 1 day. Not neccesarily that your next children will come earlier. I was 39weeks+ 5 days with Lilian, and due to Pre- E I was induced at 37weeks + 3 days with Bailey. I had them earlier and earlier, it's not always the same with each pregnant women. I hope you don't go over due, it's HORRIBLE hah.

My poor friend was 40 weeks +9 days over due with her first.

my first was 38 weeks but i did have my membranes swept. my second was 39 weeks but again i had my waters broken with him. Not much help i know lol but just from personal experience i would not be induced unless you need it. My first birth was so so wonderful and not hard at all, my second was hell lol i think its because i had my water broken and needed the drip to start contractions oh and his head was 3 and a half cms bigger than his brothers LOL either way I hope your little one comes soon, good luck with the birth xx

Had my first at 21, and he was born on his DD. Also, I didn't have any show or signs that labour was approaching. In fact I don't think I lost my show until a good 10 odd hours in, even my waters had to be broken. So don't feel disheartened - because it's your first, you probably won't have a show or waters. I remember thinking that he was going to stay put forever because i didn't have any signs - but without warning those braxton hicks just got regular and I was in labour. Good luck!
