Q: How soon can you go to the ob/gyn for your first visit? I am 3 .5 weeks, too soon?

I am 3.5 weeks pregnant and want to get some type of doctor confirmation. The ob/gyn is telling me that the doctor wont see me until 8 weeks, but I was wondering if I should go before then, and if they are going to do anything that the hpt is not doing.

I am 4 weeks 4 days. My doctor did blood work immediately with this pregnancy and the last due to my history of miscarriage. I am seeing him at six weeks for an appointment and ultrasound although once again it is because of my history and I do have severe rheumatoid arthritis (yep joy!) so they have to watch me extra carefully. I think 8 weeks is completely normal and I know like it seems a long time to wait, but settle in and enjoy this time!!!! Getting pregnant was all about waiting and now being pregnant is all about waiting :)

With my first pregnancy and also with that one I had my first appointmen at week 6 with my GP ...., with the first pregnancy my first appointment with midwife was in week 8 , with that one will be in week 11 ...My first scan with the first pregnancy was in week 12, with that one I had an emergency scan at weeks 6 and 8.

I had bloodwork done at 4 weeks to confirm and my first appointment was at 6 weeks because I'm high risk due to high blood pressure. Most doctors won't see you earlier than 8 weeks unless you have a medical need (but many will confirm with a blood and/or urine test).

I second prior messages... there really isn't anything to see before 7ish weeks, however that being said you can demand a visit if you feel that is would make you feel better. My OB is awesome, but didn't want to take me until 8 weeks... so I said I was making an appointment at 7 weeks, she laughed and said OK. I know that it will stress out otherwise and an earlier appointment would help. :-) Just continue to communicate with your doctor and I'm sure they will work something out. :-)

I am 4+4 and I saw the Dr today only because I already know I am rh- and because they need to check my thyroid. I got a shot in the bum, gave TONS of blood (but they said they don't measure hcg because I have no history of pregnancy issues) they did a pap, and all they did to confirm was have me pee in a cup. I go back in 3 weeks for an u/s.

My doctor won't see you till you are 8-12 weeks along and my doctor does not check hgcs.

you can go to your doctor as soon as you get a positive then they will start to sort out a mid-wife you won't see a mid-wife untill your 8 weeks.

My doctor wouldn't get me in either until 8 weeks. Seems like forever, but it went fast. I know how you feel it's nice to get that doctor confirmation that you are indeed pregnant. My doctor didn't check my levels either, just a urine test. Congrats. :)

My doctor didnt even check my hcg levels ever!! They just used a urine test. Which i am glad she did as i see many people on here freaking out about their hcg levels not being high enough or too high.

I would be having my hcg levels checked at least, to insure that they are doubling. That is most important right now. You really would not seeing anything on a sonogram until 6 weeks. Congratulations!!
