Hello Lala,
This totally depends on your doctor, on what he choses best for you according to him. First appointments are usually lined for 8th or 10th week because the placenta has been formed by then, and even the hearbeat is generated. So it is easy for the doctor to interpret the well being of the baby and his future. If you are going to be on a vacation during that time, i think your doctor wilk suggest you visiting a peruvian doctor whilst your stay there, because the first appointment is really important and necessary.

We are going to Peru for two weeks, so I would really prefer to make sure everything is okay before we go because I don't want to end up in a Peruvian hospital! I'm going to beg them to let me go in early. Before we leave for Peru, we will be visiting our family, so hopefully I have something good to tell them! I'm not having morning sickness or anything right now, so hopefully they can't figure it out before I tell them! Thanks for the advice!

Ask if you can go earlier! I went for first scan at 5 weeks (because of previous ectopic) and for my second scan at 7 weeks to date the pregnancy and hear the heartbeat!
Congrats!!! And good luck!!

LaLa I'm in a very similar situation. I'm 5 weeks today and flying across the country for my Dad's 60th in October. My OBGYN is away the week before we leave so now I have to wait until we return from our vacation so won't have my first scan til week 10!! I was really hoping to tell the family on that vacation and don't know how I'm going to hide it quite frankly. But also don't feel comfortable telling anyone before the scan because we suffered a loss at 6 weeks last time. What have you decided to do?

You can go in at 10 weeks. That's when I had my first appointment. They recommend between 8-10, but if you're going in for a conformation and everything looks good then you could probably wait till 10 weeks.
