Q: Alternative ideas for a co-ed shower?

Originally I didn't plan on having a baby shower, but my friends are desperate for me to have one (most of them don't have kids, so are pretty excited) and I've started to feel like it would be nice to do something to celebrate the baby before she gets here. Still, all the traditional baby shower stuff is really not me at all; any ideas for a fun alternative? The baby's a girl, so I thought about a suffragette theme - but don't know how I'd manage that! Or do you think it would be better to do a more generic party? Any suggestions are welcome!

Oh, I should also add that we're not spiritual people, so a blessing-type party isn't ideal for us either :-/

We're having a pretty similar party to what addizmnz did. It's a couples party, there will be games (not the usual shower games) and alcohol for those that can enjoy them, and we are eating BBQ and will probably have a football game on in the background. Just a fun way for friends and family to get together and celebrate baby's arrival!

I had a co-ed baby shower for a friend of mine who wanted her husband included and it turned out great! I tried not to make it *too* girly and included beer and wine for the husbands who came and the women who could drink (we had several pregnant women there)! We all ended up having a great time!

You could have people dress up that way, with the hairstyles and all! Play music from that era, make signs like "votes for women" or "women's freedom league". If you really wanted to go all out, possibly some popular food from that era, maybe have it outside like a proper tea party. It can be lots of fun if you're crafty and know some crafty people that don't mind helping!
