We just launched a small business that offers an extremely affordable alternative to buying a maternity coat. (www.makemybellyfit.com)
We call it the BBfit panel (B for Belly and Baby) which converts your existing coat into a maternity coat. The design also allows you to use it for baby-carrying after the pregnancy. We're based in Canada and ship virtually anywhere. The stretchy, softshell panel simply zips in and we offer lots of different adapters to match the zip on your jacket.
At $35 plus $10 for our standard adapters, you can continue looking good AND make your belly or baby fit!

Hope this helps and please don't hesitate to contact us if you're not sure what zip is on your jacket.

I questioned this as well as I'm due in December and live in NY. I actually opted not to. I just took my husband's heavy north face fleece jacket and just wear that. It worked out great. I tried on a few maternity coats and none of them fit well, so this was my alternative option and it seems to be working fine right now.

I had my son in January, I am from NYC. I bought a wool maternity coat and I was so happy to have it. I wore it for a month after I have birth as well.
There is nothing worse than feeling that wind go right through your coat or up your back if it's not buttoned.
I think it is a good purchase. You'll wear it every day.
The other way to go is to buy a down maternity best and wear that under or over your other regular coat. I have one of those and am happy I kept it because I am due in may and will need warmth this time around.

Yes, Im wondering this too. Im from the UK and although its only October its already beginning to drop to minus degrees and its getting frosty! We even had to scrape the ice from the car on Tuesday morning!
By christmas I will be 33 weeks pregnant and probs ready to pop! The cheapest maternity coat I have found that is a nice coat that I would wear was £65 from New Look. I dont know about you's but I dont have £65 to waste on a coat that I will wear a couple of times! Like marney529 said, my family and friends have told me just to wear a big warm jumper with a jacket over the jumper unzipped.. I might try this althought with how the winter seems to be going already, that might not keep me warm enough! x

I was wondering the same thing. I live in NY though and I will be 26 weeks PG at Christmas as well. I have looked for maternity coats but some are so expensive and I dont want to have a coat I will wear for 3 months and then never wear it again. I looked online and the cheapest one I found was on Wal*marts maternity page for $20, but it is only available online so I dont really know how warm it will actually be.My sister-in-law, who is from Buffalo (crazy winters there) wore her button down pea-coat but only buttoned the top 2 buttons and wore a hoodie under that and was fine so I might try that, but I guess I will have to see how bad the winter gets here this year.Good luck and let me know if you find anything.
