Q: baby shower and tight on money?

I wanted to have a baby shower, but the next 3 months DH and I will be tight on money. Is there something else I can do instead of baby shower?

I didn't want a traditional baby shower, but my best friend wants to throw me a shower, so I asked her if we could organise a picnic in a park instead, where everyone brings a dish or drinks or snacks to share. Then everyone can come and go as they please, we can have some fun games or just chill in the shade.

Much cheaper when everyone brings a dish, and no cleaning up!!

You should still do a shower but make it a potluck or something. Besides...a friend or relative should throw the party for you. Everyone knows babies mean you're tight on money and the point of the shower is for everyone to help out and get you ready! Even if you throw it yourself you may find you saved money on the long run because of all the gifts which are things you would have to buy for the baby anyway! Just make sure to set up a registry so you don't get the same thing from everybody.
