Q: Thrombosis and pregnancy (DVT or CVT)

Hi ladies, this is my first pregnancy, I am 4 weeks and 5 days pregnant :)

Last year I had a blood clot on my brain (CVT) and I was told I would probably need to be in blood thinners (shoots on my belly) during my entire pregnancy and 6-8 weeks post-partum. I wanted to know if anybody is currently having this treatment or had in in the past because I am very scared about it.

I want to know how bad it is and what are the perspectives for your delivery? because I heard it can only be induced labor and without epidural for the risk of hemorrhage in the spinal cord.

I have my first appointment with the high risk ob at the end of next week (at 6 weeks), so I hope she will answer some of my questions, but it would be nice to hear from women in the same situation.

Thank you!

I'm on Lovenox 40 mg shots daily now... I have too many platelets and also am positive for the lupus anti-coagulant (clotting factor), so I get to take them daily until at least 2 mths. after birth and then back to my regular Plavix. I'll tell you now, get ready. :( They are so unpredictable. You might hit one spot that you never even feel, but the next day poke somewhere where it's, well, painful. And they bruise like crazy!! Fortunately, the major bruising does go away after the 1st couple weeks (I just have little random ones now!). But, the good news is they're completely do-able and so worth it in the long run. ;) I also joined a group on babycenter.com called Lovely Lovenox Ladies and it's mega helpful - those girls have been there, done that and can fill ya in on anything you need. :) Best of luck to you!

Hi dear!

Are you getting lovenox shots? I have no personal experience with this but I have a bit of a medical background. A lot of doctors will have a woman switch from lovenox to heparin as it gets closer to delivery as to eliminate the problem with epidurals. Alternatively, some will schedule an induction or c-section and tell you to stop the lovenox for 24-48 hours before the scheduled delivery.

The best thing to do would be to discuss this with your doctor and see how he/she usually handles this type of issue.

Wishing you all the best! And I'm jealous you live in Hawaii! My favorite place!
