Q: would newborn clothes fit a 9lb baby?

My baby is estimated to be 8-9lbs. I know the weight might be off after he's born. But I was just wondering if newborn clothes would fit a 9lb baby. I didn't buy much newborn because I know he will be growing out of them fast. I mostly have 0-3 months. Thanks in advance ladies. :)

I got all of our NB clothes in neutral colors from my sister in law, specifically for this reason. If I have an eight pound baby, we'll end up buying all new clothes in three weeks anyway. Might as well use hand me downs at first!

I made the mistake of getting just newborn clothes for my son last time (I was only 17 lol I didn't know any better) and premie clothes because most babies are too small for newborn clothing from a mother of 6 so I took her word for it. Big mistake. My son was 8 pounds 2 ounces and 21 inches tall and the newborn clothes fit him perfectly for about two to three weeks. Some of the clothes were never worn and we had to go buy more to fit him. I'd buy only a few newborn clothes and then stick to 0-3 months.

My first was 8.12 an only 0 to 3 fitted, can depend on length too.

Babies tend to lose a few lbs before gaining again. You may want a couple that size but I'd buy more in 0-3. Regardless of birth weight, they just grow fast!

I think it also depends on the brand. I know with Carter's they say newborn is for up to 8lbs. But even if your baby fits into NB size, they outfit will probably only be worn once. You're probably better off getting 0-3 months size--he probably will get more use out of it. Congratulations.

My son was born 9 lbs 2 oz. We took both a newborn outfit and a 0-3 month outfit to the hospital and he fit the newborn outfit perfectly. He stayed in newborn sizes for about a week and a half and then was fully in 0-3 month.

My baby is currently 9 lb, and he fits newborn clothes perfectly, but i am starting to put him in 0-3 month. So get a few newborn outfits for a nice fit, but dont go overboard on NB.
