I am 4 months today and I too wanted to start buying things as soon as I hit the 2nd trimester! BUT we want to know what we are having so have to wait until my 20 weeks scan which isnt until Feb. SO instead I decided to start doing my hospital bag to try to curb my want to shop lol, I did buy a couple of newborn onesies, mittens, socks, beanies and a bunny rug for the hospital bag just in white. And packed some things for myself like pads, toiletries, breast pads etc. Thats how I tackled my need to buy, even though I know its way to early to pack the hospital bag now, I just keep it under my bed and as I remember things, like lip balm or a hair brush, I just pop it in there. I still have 4 weeks to wait until our scan and I know its going to drag.

I am also 4 months and I know exactly how you feel!!! I just want to start buying like crazy! However I am forcing myself to hold off until I know the gender and until after the baby shower.

I had the same problem at about 17 or 18 weeks I was ready to buy everything. But I waited until my 20 week scan and found out it's a boy- so i'm very very glad that I waited because now I can buy gender according things. I'm 25 weeks now and I've bought some clothes, lotions, and other basics. But it's all up to you when you start buying. You can start now but I wouldn't buy a lot and I wouldn't buy clothes yet because once you find out the gender it will be so much more fun.

We decided on what we wanted and researched the brands. We then waited for each item to come up on sale. So we knew long ago what car seat we wanted but waited like 6 weeks until it was on a good sale to buy it. Four months is safe to start buying but no need to rush.
I found spending my time picking the best items and searching weekly for sales kept me busy and prevented me from buying just for the fun of it. It also has saved us a lot of money. Personally I would hold off another 2 months before buying clothes. We are now 26 weeks and just started looking at clothes. I think the temptation to buy "cute stuff" over rides buying the right stuff a lot of the time!
Remember you need the right sizes and right seasons. Before buying, plan out what size you'll need winter clothes versus sumemr clothes. As well, we started a chart to track what we have bought so we don't end up with 36 cute onsies and no pants because we bought item by item without planning!! Have fun!

I am 17 weeks and we bought our crib yesterday! If you know your having a shower then just get the big items and wait for the rest till you see what you get thats what were planning on doing.

Most of the clothes I'd wait until after the baby shower, though, if you're having one.

We've been buying the big things like a high chair and bouncer and car seat and whatnot since we found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks. I agree with the other ladies, just by gender neutral and whatnot until you know what you're having, if you wanna know. lol

I had my entire nursery finished at week 13 (because I was moving and needed to have it all in place when I return with the baby in the summer), but I didn't start buying clothing until I knew the sex. Its so much easier to avoid buying the cute little fluffy pink things when you are SURE its going to be a boy (or vice versa), so you know you are only getting what you will use. Good luck!
