Q: Online baby shower

I live a million miles away from family and friends and expecting my first in June. I would love to have a baby shower and get all excited about having a baby etc but of course, I can't have one on my own! And yes, admittedly, I would love to receive gifts from people , knowing they went out especially and thought of us and also we live from pay day to the next so of course anything would help.
I have never asked for anything. Never had any big birthdays, my wedding consisted of just my Husband and I as again we were a million miles from anybody we knew and never received any gifts. I have seen that you can set up online baby registry's and send it to family and friends.
Is this just plain cheeky? Should I just suck it up and accept that I/ we're just not going to get anything?

I felt bad telling people we were registered at bed bath and beyond for our wedding....so I don't think I could send someone the link for the baby registry unless asked. But I suppose it also has to do with the relationship you have with the people you are sending it to.

Do you have skype??? Have your mother (or a really close friend) throw a shower for you at there house, with you on skype... have everyone buy the gifts online and have them sent to you, and open the gifts during the time you are on skype... this will take some extra planning, making sure the gifts get there before you have the shower!!! and then have the person throwing the shower for you, serve refreshments and play some baby shower games.... and even though your on skype and not there physically, it will be fun and you'll get gifts! and if people bring gifts to the shower (cause they dont know how online shopping works, just have the person throwing the shower send them to you afterwards!!! I have lived a million miles away with my first baby...and still do with this baby. Its not cheeky as long as you have someone wiilling to throw you one!!! Also it is not cheecky to have a baby shower were you live too, with the friends you made! Just as long as someone with throw you one!
