i think it would be okay, its just recommended that you wait until your second trimester, have your hair done in a well ventilated area, and dont allow the bleach to just sit on your scalp.

Here where I live (in Denmark), it is recommended not to bleach and color hair during pregnancy. The research has shown that all the chemicals from all kinds of products that people use on their body, transports to the baby. So in Denmark we use perfume and paraben free products, and organic products during the pregnancy and while breastfeeding. So think about the hair color - it is a chemical bomb! I personally stopped color my hair two years before I have planned to have a baby.

I AM a hairstlyist and can tell you that you and baby will be fine. Don't apply the bleach to your scalp though. Not because it can cause harm to the baby, but it can burn your scalp so heavy highlights are definitely better. I get color on my skin and, although the salon does have some ventilation, when you're mixing a bowl of color right under your nose, ventilation doesn't really do much. If it were that much of a problem, doctors would tell us not to work or do colors or no hairstylists would have children. It's an old wives tale really. The only concern when it comes to coloring hair on pregnant women, is that the hormones can cause changes to the hair which can make the final color result a little unpredictible and can vary from what you are used to. Hope that helps!

hair dressers work in well ventilated environments. (well, they should be at least) They arent sitting there huffing the fumes all day. If you look up any study done about hair dying, they all say its the fumes from the dye, not it being absorbed into your skin, which you should be cautious about

I have highlights done because the bleach doesn't touch my scalp :-)

Re: Fumes - hairdressers have babies... so i'm guessing it's not that bad!

:-)

I chose to stop dying my hair when I found out I was pregnant; most of the information I found about it said it was "probably" harmless and recommended, as nesssicle mentioned, to wait until the second trimester. So it's really a matter of personal choice!

I do dye my hair and don't find anything wrong with it. Its the fumes that you should be worried about. As always, its recommended to wait until the second trimester, after most of the critical fetal development has taken place.
