This is my going to be my third and I'd be lying if I say that I'm not afraid. I have a high pain tolerance but I would never go through birthing without epidural and that's my personal preference. If I don't have to be in pain if it's not necessary besides labor itself is tiring and I need to be in tip top shape to nurse my baby on demand afterwards.

Honestly, I'm really not scared of the labour itself . I think it's because I've read every book under the sun and knowledge is always powerful , so I feel prepared for what I have to do. I see my body as fully able to carry and delivery a baby. I suggest you read Ina May Gaskin's books, they are very inspiring, they make you feel like you body is capable.

I wanted to do a little research before I submitted my answer to this question.
In the US you are MORE likely to:
Catch a ball at a major league ballgame,
Be killed in the next year in some sort of transportation accident, or
Fatally slip in the bath or shower
............... than you are to die of complications of the birthing process in the US.

Now, my whole point being this: Women do this every single day, all over the world. A child is born every 8 seconds globally. Now I think fear of the pain or possible complications is valid, but thinking that you possibly CAN'T give birth is like saying that you are weaker than the 10,800+ women who did it yesterday. I just feel that our generation has grown up watching A Baby Story and other real-life dramas that dramatize labor as this horrible, scary thing. I too worry about the pain, but I know the end result is going to be worth it, and that it is just ONE DAY of pain for years and years of happiness.

Don't worry hun, I'm a first time mom as well, and I'm terrified of the labour and what pain relief will work! All I keep in mind is that pain is temp, and at the of it all you will forget everything you have just been through when you hold your baby for the first time.Don't worry hun, I'm a first time mom as well, and I'm terrified of the labour and what pain relief will work! it's all gonna be alright. this will be my fourth delivery and it hurts it really does...but there are pain meds and an epidural which really helps... on my second delivery i actually pooed a little while pushing out my son and i spend the rest of the delivery laughing because of it....labor can be hard and intensive but it is bet not to get freaked out. things will most likely go pretty smoothly and you baby will be in your arms in the end!

Yea although my fear is about the likely bowel movement that happens!!! I've tried to just the frame of mind that the baby will come out one way or the other, and i would prefer it not to be c-section, plus if i waste energy threating over the birth, i'm going to miss out some of the best things of first time pregnancy.
