Q: Traveling at 35 Weeks

A dear friend is moving out of the country next month and we'd like to go to his going away party. I will be 35 weeks, since I can't fly we'd drive, split the trip into 2 days, one 12 hour drive to visit my mom on the way then 5 hours the next day to where he lives.

Anyone traveled this far along can give advice? I'm a FTM, no complications whatsoever this pregnancy, and I've felt great haven't gained a lot of weight and stayed very active so far. I want to do it but don't want to be reckless. Any advice I would be so appreciative.

Travelling so late during pregnancy can be of high risk. You are at 35 weeks and chances are that you can move into sudden labor if anything goes wrong according to plan. I would suggedt you take a prior permission from your doctor before deciding to go away on such a long trip. The baby is usually in its advananced stage, and can be irritated very soon. You have be comfortable during this stage of your pregnancy. Consult your doctor and make needful arrangement if he allows you to travel. Make sure you stay comfortable!

My doctor told me that if any point I needed/was going to travel more than 4 hours away from home, I needed to clear it with him first. I would talk to your doctor...you may just have to stop more often to get out of the car and stretch your legs. Being in the same position like sitting in a car for an extended amount of time can put you at risk for blood clots.
