Q: 34 week appointment today and some scary news...

Today I went for my usual 34 week appointment. My blood pressure has been borderline since 25 weeks (I have rheumatoid arthritis which is a risk factor) I have done everything under the sun to prevent my BP from continuing to rise (work out 5 days a week, gained 23 lbs to date, eat very little salt, etc) but today it was the highest it has ever been. My doctor is concerned that I might have either preeclampsia or gestational hypertension. I have no protein in my urine and no edema but he did labs today to check for HELLP syndrome. He has mentioned bed rest, medicine, and inducing me at 37 weeks depending on what happens. I go back Tuesday for a recheck of the blood pressure and to review my labs. I am freaking out!!! This is so not what I expected and I am not sure what to expect moving forward. Anyone else had an experience like this? I am on bed rest till Tuesday (so lots of time to freak out about this!!!)

I've had preeclampsia with all of my pregnancies.. My first was severe.. 2nd wasn't so bad and this time around my blood pressure shot up for a day then went back down so imwas borderline.. They went ahead and induced.. I was induced all 3 times.. Every one of my babies was just fine :) I would say not to stress, it will be ok.. They will figure it out ! Good luck :)

I'd expect regular non-stress tests (monitoring fetal activity) and ultrasounds from here on out - and regular blood pressure checks. I've had two friends go through this recently and I can say that the bed rest didn't have a long last effect. The goal is to keep your blood pressure managed and the baby inside for as long as possible - but I'd def expect an earlier delivery
