Q: Does pitocin make your labor harder and more painful?

I gave birth to both of my children with no pain medication( no epidural or anything!) yet both were induced cuz I was walking around at 5 cm. I wonder if the pain would be less if I ditched the inducing and the pitocin and just let my body try it for itself. Does anyone have any experiences in this field?

My induction with my son was painful and the after process was even worse. My daughter I had naturally 2+weeks early with no meds at all and I jumped off the table and was a 'spring chicken'. No pain or swelling at all. I would go the all natural route (aside from the burning while pushing lol) anytime! Good luck :)

Yes it makes it more intense. I was induced with pitocin, however, I had an epidural. My husband was reading the monitor and shocked I was no longer feeling the contractions which were much stronger on pitocin than before. I requested the epidural before they induced me because I knew that it would be more intense and more painful.

I have never personally been induced or anything, but from what I have heard and read Pitocin makes your labor move faster so you don't get as much prep time for the increased contractions so in a way yes.

I've never had pitocin, but I gave birth without pain medication or other intervention - and while it was painful, there wasn't any point where I felt that I couldn't cope (except maybe the ring of fire :S). My contractions built up nice and gradually, so I had plenty of time to practise breathing exercises and take a nap before things got difficult. My sister, on the other hand, was induced. She went from 1cm to 10 in an hour and was apparently screaming for an epidural. Obviously all labours are different, so you can't compare, but from what I hear non-induced labours are much easier to manage. Good luck!

Pitocin, will definitely make the labor go faster, but it will also make it more intense. I had pitocin with both my others because my labor would slow down and babies heart beat would slow. So I don't know for a fact that it is more pain, but I have heard that it does. I think it is just another one of those individual feelings of each person. I think if you made it through with out an epidural says a lot about what you can handle. What ever you decide, good luck.

I had pitocin because I don't dilate at all. It made things go faster but it throws you body into labor when it's not ready.. So it's more of do you want it to be faster, harder and longer affects or slower, more natural, and easier to spring back.
