Q: Really overwhelmed by all the product choices

So I'm trying to put together a registry since everyone has been asking where I'm registered. The number of choices for everything; from bottles to strollers are making me feel unprepared for motherhood. When I babysat, I used to think a bottle was just a bottle...but now I find that a bottle can be ergonomic, gas-reducing, glass, plastic, etc. Any advice for how to sift through the options? Any favorite products (particularly for the basics) that I should include on my registry? How many of each thing do I need? Any good websites that have advice? PLEASE HELP!

Just enjoy it :) Take an "experienced" mom with you if possible! They will help you sort out what you REALLY need and what is just commercialized! I went with glass Born Free when I had DS. They are HEAVY. So I wouldn't suggest glass anything. Also I would suggest your baby "gear" being gender neutral. That way when or if you have another child you already have the big stuff! We're expecting baby #2 and we still have everything we need!! With exception of cloths if baby is a girl. Best wishes and enjoy the shopping!

I guess everyone is different and you will find products that you love and work for you and products that you dont like/ dont work for you. Trial and error i guess, because what works for one mum might not work for others. There is so much stuff we brought for our first baby which we didnt really need or use.

I know, I remember it was really stressful for me too with my first baby! Wedding registry shopping was so fun and baby registry shopping was completely horrible. I think it's because I convinced myself that every little decision (like picking the wrong crib or cars eat or bottle) could possibly harm my baby! But truthfully, as long as what you pick is approved by the CPSA (Consumer Product Safety Commission) or the JPMA (Juvenile Products Manufacturer's Association), which things sold at baby stores generally are, you're probably fine.

That being said, I liked the book "Baby Bargains." It not only reviews things for safety/function, etc. but also helps you figure out what's the best deal for the money you're spending. I remember I had so many post-its marking different products in that book!

I agree with ullstash, her lists are great and yes, she's hilarious and doesn't sugar coat it! I'm 15 weeks and I need to start thinking about working on my registry and I got overwhelmed until I learned about Lucie's List and it definitely helps and makes registering a lot more fun!
