Q: Curious about induction...

If you required induction with your first baby did you need to be induced with your second? And if anyone who has been induced could describe their experience I'd also be grateful. Thanks!

With my first my water broke, and it was a fairly "easy" labor. With my second I came in w stomach flu, and since they had the Iv in asked me if I wanted to have the baby ( I was due the next day and was 39 1/2 weeks) so they broke my water. It doesnt hurt at all. I had him less than 5hrs later :)

There are many different ways to induce. I had them all lol. 13 days overdue I finally went into the hospital and was 3cm dilated. However, I stopped dilating at 7cm and his heart rate was dropping so they used Pitocin to get me to dilate further. Then I find out years later that pitocin is linked to a bunch of stuff and therefore not the best option. In hindsight I should have accepted the c-section that they suggested but I thought vaginal was best. My son is fine but he's also still young so I won't know yet if the pitocin has affected him. Try a few of the natural methods first but definitely do your research.

I don't think I was very dilated, nothing was ever mentioned about pitocin to be honest I don't know if that is used in England I've never heard anyone having had it here before.

I was induced with my first two at 39 weeks. Both times I was already 5cm dilated but not in active labor, started pitocin, broke water and had the baby under 2 hours from start to finish. The pitocin made contractions very very hard with not much break in between to rest, but I managed with some coaching to get through it all without pain relief. I am not being induced with this one our 3rd because I don't want the painful pitocin contractions and want to see how I do all by myself. I did not need to be induced with either except that my babies were almost 9 lbs at 39 weeks and I was already dilated so much. Good luck with your labor and delivery!

Was induced with both my first two. My contractions kept killing out. My suggestion (my opinion), make sure you have some sort of pain management. Like I said thats my opinion. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but apparently not when it comes to giving birth. Im hoping with this one I dont need to be induced.

Being induced doesn't mean you have to in subsequent pregnancies.

Oh wow, so the gel alone did it? You didn't need pitocin? Do you remember how many cm dilated you were when they gave you the gel?

I was induced with my first because she was 2 weeks over due, no one has mentioned anything about being induced with my second so I guess it depends on if I go over due again.
When I was induced all that happened was the woman inserted some gel I was told to lay down for a little while and then she made me go off for a walk.... 9 hours later I was holding my little girl :)
