Q: Is it normal to not detect a heart beat at 6 weeks, 2 days?

My 5 week, 2 day ultrasound showed just the gestational sac measuring about 6mm.

This week, at 6 weeks, 2 days, my u/s showed a 12mm gestational sac and yolk sac but no fetal pole or heartbeat. I was under the impression that the heart beat should be visible using transvaginal ultrasound (which I had) starting at 6 weeks.

Has anyone else experience no heartbeat at 6 weeks? What was the outcome?

You are so early in the pregnancy right now, that even if your dates are off by just a few days, it can impact what you see on the ultrasound. Give it another week or so - that ultrasound will be more accurate.

I had a scan (internal at 6wks 3/4 days) it showed the sac but no heartbeat, when I went back two weeks later all was on show! do not worry, the first machine they used on me was not the best and they put it down to that, even the picture itself wasn't good. I am now going into 20 weeks.

By six weeks there is usually a fetal pole and heartbeat by t/v ultrasound. What did your doctor say? Is it possible your dating is wrong?
