Q: Can husband skip the first few hours of induction?

I'll likely be induced next week, since the baby's had a bit of IUGR for a while now. My cervix was completely closed yesterday, so the doctor did a membrane strip to try to ripen the area in preparation for next week. I suspect it will take a goodly length of time for induction to occur though, and given that my husband has only 3 paternity leave days, I'm hoping he can still go to work as usual for the first portion of the induction. Has anyone else had this experience? Is it typically uneventful for the first 6-12 hours? I haven't had any Braxton Hicks so far, but I'm not sure if that makes a difference in how one's body will respond to the inducement meds.

I was induced due to IUGR at it took about 45 minutes for the pains to start. contractions it took about 3 hours but they were pretty far apart at that point. about 12 hours after I had been started of my contractions we every 28 seconds. So It happens faster for some then it dose others. your hubby could still go to work just make sure he has his phone on him while he is there so that you can call him when you need him there.

Also consider from what I understand inductions rarely start on time so that might buy you up to a few hours. Can you request that you be induced on a Saturday? Most doctors won't want to because that's inconvenient for them but you have a good reason. It's not like they can't do it, they just want to be on their schedule, not yours, so you may have to insist pretty strongly.

I was induced with my son and it was probably the world's slowest progression everrr. From start to screaming baby, was 33hrs 46mins. Huge difference from the other ladies!
Best of luck! =))

When I was induced it lasted 9hrs start to finish and started up straight away.. definitely different for everyone but I guess you could always contact him if things started to pick up

My water broke with my first at 36 weeks & I never went into labor, so I was given pitocin to kick start labor. I was 1 cm when they started the IV. The first 6 or 7 hrs were uneventful, but when I hit 4 cm, I went from 4 to 10 in an hour! So, things can change fast! If he needs to work, I wouldn't push it past the 5-6 hr mark just in case you are one of those women that dilate fast.
