Q: Baby Shower - Skipped it for 1st kid, want it for 2nd. How do I make this into a family thing?

With my son my husband & I really weren't close to very many people, we had kind of withdrew our social lives & we really wanted to buy everything for the new baby. So that's what we did :) We didn't have a shower. We are now expecting our second baby who is due when our son turns 1 year old, & we would love to have a shower for this baby. We have a lot more budding friendships now & have reconnected with people. (stopped being antisocial zombies basically) What we really want is to have our son there & get some presents for him, some presents for new baby, and a couple things for us. Kind of a WELCOME NEW BABY party, rather than a traditional shower with games. I really want my son to be a part of things. Does this go against lots of people's rules of etiquette? We don't need much baby stuff, especially if it's a boy. So we're registering for bottles, nooks, formula, toys, books, a nice vacuum. that kind of thing. What do you ladies think? Any suggestions?

I never thought about a gift for the older child. That's actually a great idea and something I'll remember when I go to future baby showers. Shows it's a special time for the older sibling as well.

Go for it! They actually call second showers a "sprinkle" since you don't need anything major they are just to help with diapers, clothes (if different gender) and stuff like you already mentioned :)

Forgot to mention, both my mother, and mother in law want to host the shower together. They are all for it, so it isn't just us deciding somebody better throw us a party :P
