Q: Birth Control after pregnancy, we aren't ready for a 3rd!

We are pregnant with our 2nd baby, the kids will be just under a year apart. Everyone thinks we're crazy, but we did plan to get pregnant right away :) However, now I've started to have nightmares that we're going to accidentally get pregnant right after baby #2. We love kids, but we want to wait a couple more years to let my body recoup before having 2 more, and we aren't in a housing situation to have 3 kids in.
I'm wondering what birth control you ladies have experience with while breast feeding. Anything more permanent than condoms or the mini pill? I don't put a lot of faith in either of those, I've heard about too many "oops" babies with them. Looking more at the shots, or implants, stuff like that. But I'm not sure if I'll have to quit breast feeding to use those, or if they just hurt the supply amount. Thanks!

You need to take birth abortion pills after getting pregnant. I suggest you one best mtp kit abortion pills to get best result. If you are under 12 weeks pregnancy then buy mtp kit online to terminate unwanted pregnancy.

Thank you so so much ladies! I've never had any experience with the regular pills, as I am HORRIBLE at remember things like that, so I knew it wasn't right for me. I haven't read anything on the patch lately, I should look that up. But the Nuva Ring was pretty hard on my moods, convenient though. So if you're sensative to hormones I wouldn't recommend it. It didn't skrew up my cycles or make it difficult to concieve afterward though, I've heard theres a bit of a risk of that with all the implants, but then, just two kids probably wouldn't break my heart anyways, I'll be too busy to be sad! ;)

If you're not worried about risking supply problems, I would definitely recommend Mirena! I would do it again in a heartbeat if I wasn't determined to breastfeed for a year lol. It wasn't right for me (only due to the milk supply problem). But, like I said, it doesn't happen to most people! Also, I do not tolerate any other birth control well (moody, crampy, etc)...this includes the pill, Nuva ring, etc. Mirena is the only birth control that hasn't made me feel like crap or really moody.

I'm glad you posted this question, as I am wondering about bc after birth. I've been saying that I was NOT going back on any since it messed my cycles up so bad and made it so hard for us to get pregnant. The NuvaRing TOTALLY jacked my body up. I'd never recommend anyone using it. I'm so afraid of the implants because of the risk of uterine perforation and them getting "lost". I know there is an implant you can have put in your arm that lasts 3 or 5 years I think. Not sure. Maybe the patch? AHH! Too many options!!

We conceived my daughter when my son was 6 months old, so they are 15 months apart. 3 months after giving birth to my daughter, I got the Mirena put in. I've had it for about 6 weeks and it hasn't affected my supply at all. I definitely recommend it, especially if you don't want #3 too early. We are not ready for another, so with Mirena we don't have to worry about it.

That's true about the mini pill. It *can* prevent ovulation, but it isn't nearly as reliable as the regular pill. One of my best friends conceived her second son on the mini pill, so I don't trust it by itself. Just research your options! There's many options to chose from!

Thanks ladies! The problem I have with the mini pill is that basically, from what I've read, all it does is stock up on a mucusy like layer that essentially blocks sperm from getting to the egg, which is why it is SO important that it be taken every day at the same time, or the layer is not as strong and you can get pregnant. . . That worries me. lol I'm not dead set on breast feeding - my son never took to it, even in the hospital, so I pumped for a month and then went to straight formula. I was hoping to try to go longer with baby 2, but we'll see. I've heard some women don't get periods on Mirena, and that's a pretty attractive offer lol. My husband told me that no matter what I CANNOT go back onto Nuva ring because it made me "more than pregnant crazy" :P

I'm glad you brought that up jennavee. I was curious about what you said bc we are led to believe that if the bc is progesterone based it won't bother our supply. I went online to research & it said a small % of women do lose their milk on progesterone based bc! The recommendation is to try the mini pill as a test run. If you notice a drop in supply, you can just stop taking it & it is out of your system fairly quick - unlike the shot or having an IUD removed. Good info to have!

I had Mirena put in 8 weeks postpartum (they shouldn't do it much sooner because your uterus needs time to heal). HOWEVER, less than 3 weeks after having it put in my supply dried up completely. I had it taken out, but my supply never came back and we ended up having to use formula. The doctor had me on meds to boost my supply, I was taking all the supplements, pumping extra, etc....but nothing worked.
This time, we're just using condoms and timing my cycles. I'm not going to risk ruining my second chance at breastfeeding.
Not everyone has this experience with Mirena, some people don't notice a difference in supply at all.

You are going to want to avoid anything with estrogen, which is why they offer the mini pill. If you are breastfeeding, I would look into the Mirena IUD. I know A LOT of women that have had one inserted & were breastfeeding. Like any form of bc, some have loved it, and some have had side effects - mainly bleeding. However, it is good for long term, reversible bc - you can keep it in up to 5 years. I have my 6 wk check up on Monday & am still trying to decide whether to go back on the pill until my husband gets neutered....I'm 36 and the shop is closed! Lol! But as long as your bc doesn't influence your estrogen levels, it should be compatible with breastfeeding.
