We don't know if we are having a boy or girl and are compiling a list of names for both. For a girl: We aren't sure if we should choose the name Nora right off the bat or if we should pick the name Eleanor and use Nora as a nickname. Any opinions welcome!

Nora is a very popular name right now. We know roughly 9 babies that were born within the past year named Nora/Norah. I would personally go with Eleanor. That way if she doesn't end up being the only Nora she has something else to go by.

If you're wanting to call her "Nora," then I think you should name her that! It's a great name! If you name her Eleanor, more than likely, people will shorten it to Ellie, etc. My name is Elizabeth and that is what I have always gone by. However, you would be shocked at how often strangers take it upon themselves to shorten it to Liz or Beth - even after I have told them I'm Elizabeth. With Nora, you have less of a chance that someone would try and shorten it.

Both are so pretty.
Yet i wonder if you decided on Elanore you may find people outside of your control, such as her school friends, may call her Ella or Elle meaning you end up the only people who use Nora and Nora is such a beautiful name on its own. It would be a shame if she developed the 'only my parents call me Nora' thing.

I like Nora! It's just different enough yet not out there! It means light and she will be the light of your life!
