Q: Do membrane sweeps work?

I am 38 weeks pregnant and my midwife wanted to do a membrane we sweep (stretch and sweep) on me today. She said I am not effaced or dilated so I am wondering if it will help and if not was there was any point in it? Any answers would be welcome. Thanks

You're only 38 weeks. I wouldn't bother intervening until you are at least 40 weeks.

It'd work better if you're at least 2cm dilated and somewhat effaced. Try using a yoga ball and lots of walking. If say sex but that was definitely my least favorite thing to do.
