Honestly, you don't need all that much in the beginning. You'll need diapers, wipes, bottles, formula if bf doesn't pan out, a basinette of some sort (you could use the pack n play if you had to), onesies, PJs, blankets/swaddles, baby wash. I tell people you make having a baby as expensive as you want it to be. I joined Similac Strong Moms & they sent me a huge welcome kit with cans of formula. Also, they send me several $5 off coupons every few weeks. You will not need things like bouncy seats, jump a roos, toys, etc for several months & a lot of those things can be found at consignment shops for nothing.

Baby washcloths, baby bathtub or some type of bath support, soap, shampoo, lotion, powder, some diaper rash cream, maybe a swaddle blanket.

Take alfalfa tablets for the breastmilk. It helped bring in my supply, without it I had to supplement with formula.

Thanks, ladies! I'm going to give breastfeeding another try (I failed to get a supply with my oldest, but I'm hopeful this time I have better success), but I will definitely see about getting a can of formula just in case. We try to buy a small package or box of diapers every time we go shopping and/or an outfit or 2. The baby was diagnosed with bilateral clubfoot, so we'll be going out a lot in the first 8 weeks for his castings and treatment, so I'm trying to get more clothes. We don't have a washer/dryer in our home, so we have to go to the laundromat. Hoping to get a set before he arrives.

Sounds like you have all the bases covered :) I bought a small pack of diapers every time I went to Walmart, because if they aren't opened they'll let you exchange them for a different size usually. I bought lots of ones but less newborn sizes. As far as clothes you can either do laundry or buy clothes - as Sianny mentioned, some babies go thru A LOT. Try thrift stores if you want more clothes. Also, not sure if you're breast feeding or formula feeding, but I signed up for enfamil's baby program and got a bunch of coupons, which was good since breast feeding and pumping didn't work for long for us. May want to grab a bottle and a can of formula just in case. The last thing you want to do is not have any food for baby and be stressed to the max if breast feeding just doesn't work for you - then have to go out and buy stuff. I also bought lots of nooks since we seem to lose them so easily, may want a couple different kinds. My kid was picky lol

Swaddle blankets, diapers, sleepers, and mommy! Also, we bought a rock n play sleeper that was amazing! My daughter slept in their next to our bed for the first 4 months. They really don't need a whole lot the first few weeks, especially since you will most likely stay at home for the most part in the beginning.

clothes were the issue for me, I had loads of baby grows but with the leaks and pukes I just couldn't wash them fast enough and with in a month he had grown out of the newborn and started the 0-3 months which until he was born I didn't realise they were actually too big so had to buy more newborn sizes.
