Jessica, my c section is a repeat c section thats the one reason. Also something to do with the shape and size of my pelvis first time round.
It will be at 39 weeks 1 day though :)
Thanks a lot for your input!!

Also my son is 2 now and he is still in the 90th percentile so I would say weight has nothing to do with any problems, if your doctor assures you your baby is healthy and ready to be born, then you should trust him. :) Have you had any NST's? Why are they giving you a c-section at 38 weeks if I may ask?

That is not too small, I was induced at 37 weeks and my son was 5 lbs 11 oz. Your son right now would be 5 lbs 7 oz and he still has time to grow and gain more weight. My son was born small because of IUGR, they think it was caused just because I am a small person and he was fine, didn't have to stay in the NICU or anything. So I wouldn't worry about it. 7 days before I was induced my doctor said he was bout 5 lbs 8 oz and so he gained a few ounces in a week, I am sure your baby will put on a few ounces and even if not he is still big enough to be fine!! He will probably not need any special care, he will probably just be small. My son was born 5 lbs at birth but was in the 90th percentile for his height at birth and by 3 months he was in the 90th percentile for height, weight and head circumference, so just because he is small at birth does not mean he will stay small, some babies just grow better on the outside once they get to a certain point in the uterus. :)

I wouldn't worry. 10 days is a long time for a baby to pack on the weight. :) Plus ultrasounds (I'm assuming that's how they got all these measurements) do have quite a bit of leeway when it comes to guessing weight.

You might find baby piles on the pounds before the big event. It's okay to be concerned but if the drs aren't then rest assured its all as it should be and stock up on smaller baby grows.
