Q: cervix is soft!

At my 36 week checkup yesterday my ob did a cervical exam and said that my cervix is soft. Does this mean that it will start thinning out and dilating soon?
My baby sits very low in my belly- i don't know if that makes much of a difference.

Thanks ladies!

I think I have a love hate relationship with how doctors do things nowadays. I love that they give us so much info and there's so much more we know now than women did decades ago. About our bodies, and our babies, through the whole pregnancy and birthing process. But I also hate it, because sometimes the info is useless. Like with cervixes. My doctor flat out told me with baby number 1 that my cervix was soft and dilated a bit, but that really it didn't mean anything. My body could go into labor and it could fully dilate tomorrow, or it could stay like that for weeks - which mine did. I was at 2cm for almost 3 weeks before being induced lol. Unfortunately there's really no way of knowing how your body will progress things at this point. It's best to be prepared, but not waiting and holding your breath...which is so difficult for me! I'm only 30 weeks and already counting down and looking for signs lol Good luck!
