Q: Migraines and medication???

I am only 5w5d and dealing with a severe migraine. I've always had migraines and took Excedrin migraine, but now i'm not sure if that is ok to take anymore. If anyone has any advice on medication to take or other methods to help it will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

Ok thank you ladies. I will see what happens. I have also been having them since I was about 8 or 9. The only time OTC helps is if I catch them in time otherwise I usually wind up in the hospital, but I will try the Tylenol and go from there. Thank you for the great advice!!!!

I wouldnt take Excedrin, it has aspirin in it. Ive had chronic migraines since I was 13, unfortunately for me, there are no OTC meds that will even slightly touch my migraines, so I was put on scripts. For prophylactic measures, I'm on a beta-blocker, Propranolol (Inderal LA). That brought me from weekly 4-5 day migraines, down to monthly 3 day migraines, IF I take every pill. For pain relief, I was put on Rizatriptan Benzoate (Maxalt RPD), works like a charm. Once pregnant, I was taken off the triptans due to lack of studies/safety and down graded to Tylenol #3. It *helps*...ok, no it doesn't, but the next alternative was a Percocet, and I really didn't wanna go that strong while pregnant so I just suck it up and vomit for the 3 days. The T3's may be something that works for u tho, esp if u can take an OTC and have it work. Talk to ur doctor, if they're that bad or that frequent, u may wanna consider a prophylaxis and possibly avoid them altogether.

The aspirin in excedrin is not recommended. They used to make an aspirin free one, but I wasn't able to find it when I was dealing with pregnancy migraines a couple of months ago. (The ingredients in the migraine one and regular one are identical, believe it or not) so I would make up my own mix by taking Tylenol with a shot of espresso or half a cup of coffee. The caffiene mixed with the acetaminophen seemed to help more than taking it without. Good luck! I hope it helps!
