Q: Yes I'm gonna go there .. I have a poop question ?

So with my son I was pretty constipated from the beginning alllll the way through till just before I had him when I had diarrhea . Well this pregnancy started with a week of diarrhea . Then that diarrhea transitioned into just light and fluffy bowel movements . No constipation no where near it . I'm around 5 weeks to 5 weeks 2 days today .

This time around at this moment I'm not as sick
This time and I crave and eat a lot healthier , I eat proteins in meats and cheeses, eggs, etc lots of dark green veggies and whole grain breads . Along with a lot more water . Is that most likely why ? And I thought it was important for your digestion to turn sluggish to absorb nutrients for baby . Do you think I'm absorbing enough ?!
TIA ladies ;)

Hi I'm a gastroenterology nurse and spend most of my days talking about poop :-) sounds like you don't need to worry, what you eat plays a massive role in your bowel motions. Obviously the hormones effect how your bowel works too but if you eat a high fibre diet lots of greens and particularly soft fruits and drink plenty of water should keep you nice and regular. Sounds like what you are eating now is working. Your bowel habits will change throughout the pregnancy though as hormone levels change and growing foetus is pushing on bowel. Also keeping up the fluids is vital, I notice the day after a 12.5 hour shift on a hot ward when I probably haven't drank enough I get constipated the next day. Then day after I am ok again when I have upped my fluid intake and eaten a bit better.

I think ur fine. Ur digestion doesnt need to slow down to a snails pace and/or constipation for ur body to absorb nutrients. As long as u dont have green poop for more than a few days, ur absorbing everything u need. Green means it ran through the tract faster than it should and u'd be seeing the bile. U sound like ur eating healthy and taking care of urself, I wouldnt worry too much at this point. Diet and hydration play a big part in digestion, esp if u have increased ur magnesium intake.
Enjoy!! =))

I had and still have the exact same issues, a sluggish digestive system can still result in softer movements it's just more common to be constipated. I hardly drank or ate a thing for several weeks due to morning sickness and my bm never changed so it's not the diet. I believe is the hormones that's causing it.
