Q: dental problems

I have not been known to have dental problems my whole life. Today I learned that I have a cavity - my 3rd one my whole life, I'm quite disappointed. I'm curious if pregnancy could have something to do with it. Hygienist asked if I've eat a lot of crackers, I'd have to say I enjoy eating crackers with melted cheese or peanut butter. She said that may have something to do with it. Does anyone have any words of wisdom on this subject?
Thanks!

I'm a dental hygienist. There are soooooo many factors that could have played a part in it. Pregnancy hormones change your saliva ph and consistency. Most preggos have dry mouth allowing food and bacteria to stick to teeth better. Nausea can make it hard to brush or floss adequately. The frequency of eating or snacking increases risk of cavities. Vomitting is acidic, leading to softer teeth. Sorry there isn't a clear cut answer, but yes, you can blame the pregnancy :)

I don't see why crackers would make the difference. Pregnancy does cause gum problems and in turn maybe problems with your teeth. My gums started bleeding when I got pregnant and would bleed every day randomly ...not just when I was brushing them. Dentist told me this is normal with pregnancy. They did return to being healthy after I had my girl.
