Asked by alison

Q: My husband makes me laugh a lot and I just had a bad consequence thought.

I'm just wondering if my belly jiggling when I laugh could affect the baby and cause something bad such as shaking baby syndrome or other disorder?

In utero, your baby is floating in amniotic fluid, so the movements you make aren't as dramatic for her. Think about when you're bobbing around in a pool and someone jumps in next to you, you just move a little bit, not as dramatically as their motion. Some women even run marathons while very pregnant and their babies are protected from the jolting motion because of this, so I don't think hearty laughter can harm.

It will not cause shaken baby, that's caused by violently shaking a baby in a way i should hope no one on here would ever do.

The worse thing that will happen is you wetting you're self, even more so as you get into the third trimester. Oh and baby can hear you laughing and may be loving it too.

If it's safe to exercise, laughing is no biggie. Laugh away!

No. My DH likes to "shake the baby" by jiggling my stomach. He did this throughout my whole pregnancy with DD and she's fine. Baby is pretty well protected inside of you, your stomach shaking isn't dangerous.

I never heard of too much laughing. You most likely bounce around more when your are driving than laughing. I would say you are safe when it comes to that.
