Q: Physically demanding work during pregnancy

I'm a house keeper at a large hotel. Every day I clean the rooms. Make the beds, clean the kitchens and bathrooms. It is a lot of hard work... pushing, pulling, lifting, squating and bending...not to mention the chemicals. and im on my feet without a break all day. We only get a 30 minute lunch 2 hours into the 8 hr. shift. I feel sick and very sore after work every day. I am also about 5 weeks pregnant. Im afraid this is bad for myself and my baby. Am I wrong in thinking this? Or is it actually not good?

Staying active while you're pregnant is actually recomended unless otherwise recommended. I've had 5 miscarriages and I still worked up until 36 weeks with this pregnancy. I'm a nurse and on my feet all day long. I know it's hard to work while pregnant especially after a loss but remember that women have been working for years while being pregnant :) trust your body. Best of luck

I'm mostly just concerned because my last pregnancy ended in miscarriage. Also, I've only had the job for a week before I found out I was pregnant. I feel like on the days I work, I get more crampy then on the days I relax.

Mmkohl is right, as long as you drink your fluids and have been doing this sort of work before will be fine. In my first pregnancy I was still hiking up (slowly) mountains at 30 weeks and only stopped because of my balance being off by then and the weather turning bad.
This pregnancy I am on orders so I don't get to even take long hikes.

Chemicals are probably bad and I would suggest wearing a mask. As for everything else you are normally able to everything you were physically doing until about 28weeks into your pregnancy unless you experience complications or your doctor tells you otherwise. You will be more tired and worn out because you are pregnant but it shouldn't be harmful to the baby. I was lifting people over 100lbs by my self during my first pregnancy until 28 weeks because it was something I had been doing prior to getting pregnant. You should speak with your doctor if you are concerned.
