Q: Experiencing symptoms that I'm not sure are normal doctor isn't worried. Am I just over reacting?

Since I was 4 weeks I have had the runs really bad I went and seen my Normal healthcare doctor and he said I had gastro and it should go in a few days time and not to worry about it. But now I'm 5 weeks and I still have the gastro really bad and it's making it hard to work ect. I have another appointment with him next Friday. Is this a pregnancy symptom? Am I freaking out too much? Just worrying as no matter what I eat it just goes through me I did everything the doctor said to and it just isn't easing up and I'm down a few kegs already in the week. I'm just freaking out a little bit. I make sure I drink heaps of water to keep fuilds up as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm starting my 17th week tomorrow, and I have actually experienced the opposite this whole time. I have however done a lot of reading on pregnancy and there are so many different symptoms that are considered to be normal, and diarrhea and constipation are both! Diarrhea can be caused by your body trying to rid itself of whatever "toxins" your body thinks it has to ready your body for the baby, and conversely, constipation can be caused by your body needing extra fluids to produce all the extra blood, amniotic fluid and tissue that are necessary for the baby too! My mother taught me about the BRAT diet for such times - Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. There are other foods that you can eat to possibly help this problem. Even if it is a stomach bug, the BRAT diet will help you gain som

For me in my early pregnancy I had much looser bowels. I'm 13 weeks and they are back to normal. I think it lasted for me, 3-4 weeks after I found out I was pregnant. Maybe talk to your doctor who you are going to see during your pregnancy. They probably have better knowledge about pregnancy issues. GL~

Try changing over to a bland diet. Unfortunately, some women experience loose bowels during the 1st and 2nd trimester. It's usually caused by higher levels of progesterone. Try to get some electrolytes in you like Gatorade or Pedialyte... that will help with dehydration. I also would call the doctors office again and explain it has not eased up. I hope you feel better soon.
