I always assumed that LMP was used just to estimate your due date, because most women don'n know their exact ovulation date. As the pervious poster dais, ovulation is the more accurate way to estimate how far along you are.
I ovulated late this cycle, and my US shows a fetus of exactly the size that would fit my ovulation, not my LMP. Midwife was very pleased with that, she also said that ovulation is more accurate.

If you are sure of the day you ovulated, that is more accurate than the formula the doctors use based on LMP, which uses the average 28 day cycle. In my case, I knew ovulation from tempting and OPKs, so I used that to determine my due date. When I saw my doctor, they confirmed with ultrasound. I used an online calculator at Countdown My Pregnancy where you can enter the date you ovulated. For ovulation on 9/13/14 the estimated due date is 6/6/2015, which would have 4 weeks and 1 day pregnant as of 9/28. GL Congrats on the pregnancy!

The doctors and techs at your ultrasound when you have it will always count and Estimate your due date from your lmp not your ovulation date to start with. But when you have your dating scan then it will be corrected and more than likely be more in line with your O date. I usually count from my O date for my own records and just let my doctor no that I did O later etc. It's fine they all know you don't always O mid cycle but they will still go by your LMP date as to how many weeks you are.
