Q: Worried about my ultrasound today...

So I have no prior knowledge of reading ultrasounds, but I became concerned today when the ultrasound tech was taking what seemed to me like a largely disproportionate amount of pictures of my baby's heart. I suppose they take more pictures of a heart than a leg or an arm, but it's got me all in a tizzy. She didn't say anything but then again they're not supposed to read and interpret the scans, they just take the pictures. Anyone else notice anything like this during any of your scans?

This too happened to me with my 1st. they scheduled me for another ultrasound 2 weeks after. I am sure everything is fine, they are just cautious.

I had the same at my 20 week scan but my tech just kept saying she was in an awkward position and couldn't see everything she needed to see with the heart.
She gag me jump around and lay on my side until she got a better look. The whole thing took almost 30 mins where with my son we were in and out in 10 because he was in a perfect position.
Maybe you had an un talkative tech, i know that in the UK they do say if there is an issue, get it seconded then the Dr comes in to see you.
Fingers crossed though.

My first ultrasound same thing happened. They then told me not to worry they just couldn't get a good picture and they had me schedule a second ultrasound to try again my. my doctor said it happens a lot depending on the positioning of the baby. Then after that they still claimed the same thing on the second one and ended up sending me to the perinatologist who then sent me to the cardiologist. The perinatologist was the only one that was honest with us that they thought there was an issue. so I know how frustrating that can be. Luckily for us it turned out to be our baby has a left superior vena cava and no right like most people. We got lucky its nothing that will affect him just something that needed to be checked out. Good luck I hope that it was nothing and they were just having a hard time seeing what they needed to see but even if they send you somewhere else that doesn't mean it's anything that will be severe it's just something that is better being checked out.

Try not to worry, sometimes they just find it hard to get the image that they want due to the baby's position. They have to check all the heart valves and blood flow through the heart so can take some time if baby is not helping matters by being in awkward position. If there was anything to be concerned about they would normally get a second opinion there and then and in the ultrasound finding summary you would have it written up for follow up by consultant. the sonographer should have talked you through the scan as they were doing it really.......not very good just leaving you sat there and not explaining each part of the scan.
