As I'm having a section and in for 3 days i'm packing
travel hairdryer,hair brush and bands
washing products eg
shampoo, pk of small face wipes
sanitary towels( the ones for heavy flow)
a towel
clothes of cause
Nappies,wipes
babies clothes
blanket for baby
food that won't go off while there, i was sooo hungry between meals last time and can't eat anything they provide for breakfast cause of my allergy.
I think that's the basic stuff i need to take for my stay

oh and money,i had to pay for tv at my bed and if i wanted internet.

Things I didn't use:
magazines/books
diapers
diaper bag
regular clothes: I spend all day and night in yoga pants and tshirt, only put on nicer shirt to go home in.
hospital nursing gowns (its really weird that they have two splits on the front, I'd rather get skin to skin by raise up my tshirt)
pajamas (simply too tired to change more than once a day)

A couple of more thing on the DO take list:
Breast Pump and parts (if you already have one)
earphones/earbuds
lotion

The things I used:
chapstick (with no scent)
hair ties, clips, headband, etc. (sweaty hair gets everywhere)
snacks for me and hubby
extra undies, thin pads with wings
yoga pants or pajama pants
big t-shirts
socks (many pairs), slide on slippers with good grip
usual overnight things (makeup, hairbrush, shampoo, etc.)
pillow for me and hubby (with colored pillowcases)
go home clothes (maternity pants, nicer shirt, nursing bra, slip on shoes)
2-3 outfits for baby (lots of pictures are taken)
good wipes (hospital wipes suck, but hospital diapers are fine)
newborn pacifier (you never know, you may need it)
2 blankets for baby when leaving hospital or for pictures
phone, ipad, camera, etc. charging devices and extra storage, etc.
car seat with newborn insert
IDs, insurance cards

It depends on your hospital. You may want to ask what they provide before you pack. I'm in the U.S. and I know Sianny is in the UK. My hospital provides towels and socks with grips on the bottom. They also provide a nice water bottle that I loved so much we bought one from their gift shop for my husband that he still uses everyday almost 2 years later. You don't want to pack things you don't need as you will be leaving with more than what you bring as it is!

I would suggest a robe you can put on for when you have visitors as you most likely won't t be up to getting fancy. And a nice shirt if your hospital offers newborn pictures. Don't forget a nice shirt for daddy too! (Some hospitals don't offer this but if yours does you'll want to be prepared. Mine did an awesome job and we bought the CD)

If you know somebody who gave birth at the same hospital that you will be i would ask them their recommendations as they will have a good idea what is provided and what isn't!

Oooo thought of this last night, tiny baby clothes. I took one simple and cheap set of smaller than newborn just in case he was a small baby or I went into labour early. At 9lbs I didn't need them but gave them to a friend who ended up needing then as her little girl was too small for newborn.

Water was great for me but i preferred the chilled from their cooler so this time in taking an empty bottle as their littke cups were useless.
Food for hubby as he was starving but wouldn't eat food I'd packed for myself. I'm packing him his own hospital bag this time with clothes, deodorant and other bits.
Socks and spare socks I was so thankful I packed them as them as my waters broke on mine.
A flannel as the tissue hubby mopped my brow with just fell to pieces.
Lip balm was essential for the gas and air chapped lips.
The usual over night stuff such as towels, hairbrush, light makeup, 2 night dresses (one for labour one clean for over night)

Things i didn't need were books, magazines as I had no interest in anything other then being in pain lol but if you get an epidural you might feel bored waiting to push.
