Q: Help, I am constipated!

Sorry I know this is TMI but I am "dying" and need some relief. Have you been constipated in early pregnancy? What is the best way you have found that helps you relieve your pain?

I have constipation in my every day life and I am on medication BUT I am not allowed to use it now that I am pregnant.

I use Benefiber (colorless, odorless and tasteless & it doesn't clump), you can add it to just about anything! Cereal, oatmeal, juices, water...you name it. I take 6 tsp a day since I started 650mg of iron supplements and it has helped me quite a bit. I am still pretty constipated, but I usually can get a small BM once a day which helps ease some of the discomfort...I also drink about 80 oz of water a day which really REALLY helps!! Hope you get some relief!!

I use Konsyl 100% Natural Psyllium Fiber which has on it's label "safe during pregnancy, " on front. Just mix Iin water or juice & drink right away. Has helped me out many of times when I get constipated during pregnancy.

It's a bit nasty, but prune juice. It does usually help. Also try softer foods in smaller amounts more frequently. Yogurt with granola is a great way to get fiber. Mix some fruits in as well. It's definitely not fun, but it's definitely common, especially in early pregnancy. Good luck!

Just to drink tons and tons of water. My doctor also said that stool softeners are safe, as long as they are the ones that DONT contain laxatives, as those are definitely not pregnancy safe. I too have had this issue my whole life and other than drinking water basically nonstop nothing else helps. Increasing fiber intake is supposed to be helpful but it made my situation much worse as all it did was make me more gassy. Hope you find something that helps, because unfortunately it will most likely continue throughout your pregnancy, I know mine has lol. Almos 35 weeks and still fighting it =/
