Q: Gagging while brushing teeth!

I am only in my 5th week but am already gagging badly while brushing my teeth and tongue. Any suggestions? I literally dry heaved this morning for about 3 min after I was done brushing.

I've had that reaction with standard toothpastes for all of my pregnancies. In fact I almost gauge if I'm pregnant on whether or not a gag while brushing my teeth. I find that Tom's or toothpaste without fluoride are better. And ones that don't foam as much. Try going to a Whole Foods or similar natural foods/pharmacy kind of store and buy some toothpastes you've never heard of to try out. Try different flavors, ingredients, etc. I like Tom's Spearmint the best, but I probably tried 5 different tubes before I found one that didn't make me want to vomit every morning. I also find that sitting down while I brush (rather than standing) helps too. I roll my exercise ball over to the sink to sit and brush just in case I have to stand and heave. Nothing will keep me from getting that queasy feeling while I brush, but these things helps make it less.

It's kind of nice to know I'm not the only one with the weird pregnancy toothpaste aversion.

I had it the entire pregnancy with my first. Try finding a toothpaste that doesn't get too foamy when brushing. That would help me a little.

I went through this as well... sometimes it still happens, maybe try doing something at the same time you are brushing your teeth, like laundry or walk around and try to keep your mind off of it... it seems to have helped me.

I don't think anything will help. You could try a different toothpaste (some make me almost not able to get through brushing my teeth) but all that I've tried I still gag while brushing my teeth and throw up stomach acid almost every morning, I'm lucky if I don't, but I'd much rather throw up stomach acid than food lol I hate puking.

Sorry hun. I had the same thing till about 20wks and couldn't find anything that helped.
I gagged on my toothbrush, prenatal vitamins and even cereal and rice. Once I had been on anti sickness tablets for a while it eased up but i still couldn't take pills or brush my tongue without heaving.
