Q: Fizzy cool drinks???

Hi Ladies, I have somehow become so drawn to fizzy cool drinks...it's been said that it's bad during pregnancy...but no one has ever told me what are the dangers...I feel guilty every time I drink but so much pleasure when I'm done.

Do you know the dangers of fizzy drinks during pregnancy?
Where you the "culprit" of drinking this during pregnancy?

I drink soda(not diet cuz the aspartame is really bad for you even if you're not pregnant) and I even have a cup of coffee or two a day. Other people may feel differently but I've got three healthy kids that enjoyed soda and coffee in utero and honestly, there's a lot worse things to worry about than a tasty soda, mmm...it's really more of a personal preference unless you already have some sugar issues, like stickybean mentioned...

For what it is worth, I am the same way. Love the fizzy drinks! We actually have a Soda Stream machine. I make my own fizzy water and then add some fruit to it to give it a bit of flavor. It's not the soda taste that I want, its the carbonation. You can also buy carbonated water too, but at least this way, I know exactly what's in it. (and I do still have the occasional soda :)

I love pop I always have... With my first I drank it just like I normally did and I had the glucose test done and I was perfectly fine and my son was never over weight.... And I even told the doctor that I drink pop and she said it really wasn't a problem as long as I was eating healthy and taking a Break from it every now and then... But with this pregnancy I haven't really been drinking as much pop as I was becuase I dont have a craving for it... I think as long as you drink it in moderation you should be fine but everyone is different

I was as confused as you when I first looked into, honestly have a Google, its rather facinating how it all works. (I'm a nerd i love to read)
Its more to do with how the hormones mess with your insulin it can stop it from doing is job. The only way to keep a on check this is by checking your sugar levels so if they are high it could indicate your insulin isn't breaking down the sugar.
Indulging DOES cause your blood sugar to rocket but most peoples bodies break this down unless your hormones get in the way and high risk cases need to be monitored for this and to be extra careful because if you did indulge and your insulin was compromised then i can only imagine bad things happen.
I've not been an angel at avoiding the sweets because the cravings are silly but i don't have GD. I know it's not good for me even if it's not the root cause of it.

Really Sianny I've been told to watch my sugar level intake for this reason. I've been getting finger pricks every week to check numbers and when it's higher dr. Says cut back on sugar eat better otherwise you'll have to have the glucose test before 28 weeks and that with my age and a little over weigh I'm prime candidate and my Mum had it with both pregnancies too. I'm very surprised by this. Mmmm.
So what your saying is that eating and drinking bad stuff full of sugar doesn't cause sugar levels to sky rocket and contribute to gestational diabeaties ? Wow

Around here we have this drink called ICE. It's sooooo good! It's fizzy and best of all it's sugar free and has vitamins in it. I love it.

You'd think so, I know I did but that's not how GD works, i crave sweet stuff so I looked it up a while ago because I was worried. GD is caused by hormones messing with your insulin.

"While gestational diabetes isn't caused by eating too many sweets, if you are diagnosed with it, you will probably need to avoid sugary foods. Soda, candy, cake, cookies, juice, and other sweet foods cause blood sugar to rise rapidly."
