Q: Spotting at 5 weeks.

Ok, this morning I woke up and shortly after I had a wet feeling, so I went to the bathroom to find pink spotting on my underwear and also when I wiped. The only other times this has ever happened was when a m/c was starting. I have had 2 m/c in the past. I called my OB and because of my history, they had me come in for blood work to check to see if my levels are where they should be for being 5 weeks and 1 day. They want to repeat the levels after these results come back to ensure they are rising. I am not having any cramping so far. Has anyone else had this and everything turned out ok? I am just upset and worried. m/c is never easy, no matter how new a pregnancy is. I know that some get spotting around the time their period would be due, but I am way past that time now.

Thank you everyone! I have to wait for my results until tomorrow. I did have sex on Monday, but like I said, I have never gotten ANY kind of bleeding in pregnancy unless it followed a m/c so I am just on edge. I am not on progesterone, but will ask my doctor about that if she feels that is something to do. With my last m/c I was bleeding off and on, and had an ultrasound around 6 weeks and saw the heartbeat and was told the pregnancy was viable, and then like 3 days later, had a m/c. I think seeing the baby and the heartbeat makes it that much harder. I am hoping for the best and taking it easy. Thanks for all of your kind thoughts, and I am sending them right back to you! =)

I had a similar experience this pregnancy. I had bright red bleeding at 5 weeks and again at 6 weeks - not a lot of bleeding, but definitely bright red and the second time there were some small clots too. I've also had two losses in the past so was very freaked out. At 5 weeks, they did two sets of blood work to confirm that my levels were still rising appropriately. At 6 weeks, they brought me in for an ultrasound that showed a little bean with a healthy heartbeat.

I'm now 13w3d. We had our IPS ultrasound two weeks ago and everything looked perfect. Yesterday at an appointment we heard the heartbeat again, so things are still progressing.

I know it's hard, but try not to stress too much! Some spotting can be very normal and stress is not good for either you or the little one.

Hey friend, this SAME thing happened to me this past Sunday! I haven't had any sex, haven't done anything crazy to cause it. It just happened. And then it stopped the next morning. No cramps, nothing! I have my sonogram on Friday so the doctor just told me to take it easy until then. Do the doctors have you on progesterone pills?

MChich617, I'm sending good thoughts your way. You might ask your docs about progesterone supplements if you aren't already on them. They aren't a miracle cure, but low progesterone is a common reason for MC. Unfortunately your progesterone level can vary widely throughout the day, so just because it's okay in your blood work results doesn't mean it wasn't low at some other point during the day or night. Too much progesterone won't hurt, so you might ask to go on the supplements just in case they do help. Sometimes nothing will though. Take it easy for a few days and try to rest a lot.

If you had sex within a day prior to the spotting it might be just an irritated cervix. They may be able to do a pelvic exam or transvaginal US to tell where the bleeding is coming from, but if there isn't much blood that will be hard to tell.

Wishing you the best.
