Q: Chances of another missed miscarriage

I had a missed miscarriage in February. I caught food poisoning when I was 8 weeks and was really ill for around 10 days. I had a bit of blood when I was 11 weeks so went for a scan which showed the baby had died while I had food poisoning.

I am now pregnant again (just over 5 weeks) and I have an 8 year old and 4 year old already. While I am convinced the food poisoning causedmy miscarriage, I am very nervous about this pregnancy and just wanted to know if anyone else has any experience of this?

I'm getting an early scan at 9 weeks but I'm driving myself crazy with the wait!!

I had a missed miscarriage back in June and am currently 8 weeks pregnant. I was SO incredibly nervous for my first appointment which I had at 6 weeks. I even closed my eyes for the first part of the ultrasound because I couldn't bare to see another empty sac. But sure enough my little baby was in there with his/her heartbeat beating away at 105 beats per minute! Had my second ultrasound today and heartbeat was 173 BPM! It is so scary being pregnant after a miscarriage but the chances of it happening again are so slim and chances are you will have a happy healthy baby! I'd say if you are really going crazy schedule an earlier ultrasound. My doctor let me come in at 6 weeks just so we could make sure everything was progressing and after that first appointment and see the baby I have felt so much better! He also told me that if I am having a "worry day" that I can stop into his office and listen to the HB. Any good OB should be willing to do that for you!

Thanks daisy moo, I am trying to relax and enjoy it but I find myself constantly trawling Google lol. This mite sound weird but I've even wished I had a normal me in Feb because then I'd be waiting for it to happen rather than knowing I wouldn't know until scan. I'm doing my own head in haha. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy xx

i too had a mmc in february at 13 weeks baby had stopped at 11 weeks :( i'm currently 9 weeks now and also really anxious. I had an US today which shown a little bean with buds bopping about :) I've been told by MW the chances of a mc happening don't increase because it has happened before ? it's the same 1 in 4 pregnancies statistic. Although its nice to hear i fully understand how you are feeling i'm constantly thinking something has gone wrong but i don't know its happened yet and being very impatient to get past the first trimester and start enjoying the whole experience x try to stay positive get through each day at a time that's the only way i'm coping and super good luck to you and your bean xxx

Hey, I just answered your thread. My doctors told me that the chances of having another miscarriage are not greatly impacted by one loss. Alot of women have miscarriages some without even knowing they are pregnant. I know that you are nervous, just try and remain positive. I've personally had one cp and 2 mmc and I am now over 38 weeks pregnant with a baby boy. Try to enjoy every moment of your pregnancy and if you have any questions or worries that arise definitley speak with your doctor in regards to this. Best of luck to a healthy and happy 9 months!
