Q: Pregnancy safe OTC pain medication?

I broke my elbow recently and the pain has not gotten any better. It's keeping me up at night since I've broken it and I have not been feeling well because of lack of sleep. I seriously need some relief. I have tried a hot gel pack but it is very limited. I've tried cayenne pepper powder paste rubs with apricot oil, that's limited too. Tylenol does not work for me for anything. I don't want to take something potentially harmful to my baby, but I also need relief soon. Can anyone offer advice? If it helps, I live in Ontario, Canada.

Well, I'm used to breaking bones and I usually know the first 3 days are the worst for pain, and since I was told then it was JUST a break in the elbow, I figured I'd ride out the pain like I normally did. I did not expect the pain to become worse and worse almost 2 weeks after the fall. I normally avoid pain medication if I feel I can handle the pain, I typically only turn to pain relief IF the pain is severe enough. So it was my own stubbornness I didn't have relief to begin with, but I didn't expect to find further wrong 11 days post injury lol lesson learned!

Ended up going to urgent care, I ended up also tearing the muscles in my arm as well as breaking the elbow. I got a prescription and I'm hoping it works.

Okay thank you ladies, they're sending me off to urgent care due to arm getting worse rather than better and there's nothing besides tylenol for over the counter meds. Thank you for the number and your time!

I'm in Ontario too (Ottawa) and have used Telehealth a lot for questions. They are usually pretty good and even transfer you to a pharmacist if you're looking for safe OTC options. Just a thought!

Telehealth = 1-866-797-0000, http://www.health.gov.on.ca/en/public/programs/telehealth/

811 is a toll-free number, but now I'm wondering if it's available Canada-wide. It is in many provinces but I can't seem to find an online source to confirm that it does exist in Ontario. I was sure I had heard friends in Ottawa say they'd called that number before, but all I find is info regarding Telehealth... so maybe that's the option relevant to you!

I may run across the street to the pharmacy and see what they say. I tried calling my doctor but got no answer from anyone. So far best relief is a nice warm shower, but I can't stay in all day lol

Lol morphine would be helpful :P but too strong I think LOL

Thank you. Is 811 a toll-free number?

I discussed pain medication with my doctor the last time I saw her, and I remember she told me there are several options that, in small amounts, are suitable during pregnancy... but she was probably talking about prescription stuff, not OTC. (I remember she mentioned morphine.) So if you were to contact your doctor they could probably offer you something.
I don't know any safe OTC pain medication other than Tylenol, but maybe you could call 811 to see if there's anything they recommend, or ask a pharmacist?
