Q: Fetal fibronectin test?

Yesterday I had a fetal fibronectin test to see if my cervix was changing since I mention to my midwife I was having period like cramping at night. She also checked me for dilation and and I wasnt. But since my test come back positive I was sent to l&D for monitoring an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed only a slight difference in my cervix from my 20 weeks scan. But I was given cordisone shot just incase and sent home and told to come back of I had contractions or my water broke. So my ? Is what could cause the fetal fibronectin test to be positive if I am not in preterm labor? I read that semen can cause fals positive but we hadnt had sex in 5 days so the rules that out.

Ultimately - it shows that you are likely to go into labor in the next two weeks. It can sometimes predict labor before actual preterm labor starts - e.g. contractions or your cervix starts to change.
