How dilated or effaced you are before labor starts doesn't predict anything, my specialist said they really can't predict when you will go into labor, My best friend was sitting at 4cm dilated for that last 6 weeks of her pregnancy and had to be induced 10 days past her due date, With both of my pregnancies I don't dilate or even efface much at all either until it's show time lol and I have gone on time with both (1 day before DD and on DD but I knew exactly when I ovulated so my date was as accurate as it could be made)
Try not to stress it, Unless you are 100% certain on when you ovulated then your due date can be more than a week off and they are discovering that even a week early has long term effects for baby so relax baby knows when it's time, try to rest as much as possible because quick or short labor is physically and emotionally exhausting and exhilarating. Best of luck to you and your little one :)

At my 39 week check up my cervix was completely closed and soft too, my dr even stated that we'd be discussing the need to induce labor at my next appointment if nothing changed. I was so worried about being induced, I told my husband I didn't want to go that route. He said to tell the baby not him, so I did. The next evening contractions began and my water broke within minutes of being admitted to l & d, I was still not dialated but effacing. About 10 hrs later our little guy arrived.
Try to keep busy and maybe do some extra walking, I think it helped me anyway. Good luck!

I went into labour on my due date with zero dilation, i wasn't even a half a cm when I got checked at L&D.
All the graft on my cervix happened in the first stage of labour.
I also know you can be 3cm dialated for weeks before your due and still go over as that's happened to both my sisters.
