Q: First Baby - ANXIOUS!!!

I just recently found out I was pregnant on 12/2/14 and according to this website I am currently around 6 weeks??? I put myself at around 4 weeks assuming I conceived on my ovulation week (TMI - which I'm pretty sure we did because that's when the trying was in full force - ovulation was ~11/20/14) but I think Doctors go by first day of last period??? So that's my first question. The second is more of a concern rather than a question. My Doctors office doesn't schedule until at least 8 to 10 weeks which makes my appt. on 1/8/15. I'm trying to stay calm until them but I am so anxious. I haven't felt many systems. Really just sore boobs, gas and constipation in the beginning and I don't really "feel pregnant." I keep taking tests once a week to make sure it is still reading positive. Any words of wisdom to keep my mind at ease until my appointment?

In the early stages there isn't much for you or the doctor to do, just eat healthy, no alcohol, no medications, otc or otherwise if at all possible and take a good prenatal vitamin, I recommend taking that with dinner because they sometimes cause nausea otherwise, try to relax. With my son I had no symptoms to speak of, with my daughter I had some nausea but that was all.The first sign of pregnancy are often the same as your normal pre period symptoms. You'll notice gas and bloating, the boobs being sore or sensitive but how much varies greatly day to day person to person. There is not much you can do at this point that will make any difference to your pregnancy, if something did happen, it would be unpreventable, a lot of things have to be just right for things to get past the 8 week mark which is why docs and midwives wait until then, we find out much earlier than they used to. I've miscarried twice and it sucks, but I also have two healthy babies. Try not to worry, it hard I know!

I didn't have many symptoms in the beginning either. With this one I was slightly nauseous before I took the test, but with my first I was just crampy and super hungry. Everyone and every pregnancy is different. Try not to get too worked up, although I know I was, too. But yes, about the time you get a positive test you would be considered 4 weeks (3 1/2 at very least)

Doctors go by first day of last period, but might change your EDD when you get an ultrasound. However with an ovulation date of Nov. 20, you really are 6 weeks pregnant. The first two weeks (or so) of your cycle leading up to ovulation, when you are not pregnant already, are counted.
As for symptoms, don't worry about them. 6 weeks is pretty much when they start kicking in (generally speaking), but some women (such as myself) don't get a lot of them. They may also fluctuate from day to day, which is completely normal. Just try to relax. Congratulations!
