I know how you feel, I have had two babies vaginally and have a third on the way, everytime I think about labour I cringe because I tore both times and in basically the same place. They say that some women are going to tear no matter what but believe me, tearing is better for you and baby than a C-section. unless you medically have it be necessary a C-section shouldn't really be a pick, it has increased illness for baby and is major surgery and a much longer heal time and so on than a tear from a birth, though healing from both kinda suck :) All I can say is I tear down like you and upwards as well, both times, until I had my son the thought of tearing upwards never occurred to me, stupid I know, but that one hurt way more than the downwards one both times. But look it up yourself, C-sections are no picnic for mom or baby so I would think long and hard before choosing it when a vaginal delivery is an option. Talk over your options with your birth team and do some research. Best of luck

In my experience... I teared for my first one, really bad too (no surgery though). but for my second i didn't even get a stitch and I gave birth to 10.5 lbs baby. Weird, I know. Anyways, I'm just giving you a different perspective that you might not do more damage. But for sure, talk to an ob and midwife.

It seems like that is a choice between you and your doctors not something we ladies should really be giving an opinion on. Speak to your OB, doctor, midwife they will discuss your past history and make a decision based on your history for the best birth plan. It's seems like If they give you a choice it may be a good option to avoid more damage. Where I'm from they always was to try for a Virginia delivery unless it's really necessary for a c-section and the recovery time sucks with getting up and moving around, lifting, driving etc.
I'm sure you and your medical team will come up with a plan best for you. GL
